Bird-watchingBird-watchingThe Ottawa Gatineau region has a large and diverse birding community which dates back to the 19th century. Nowadays there are many options for people interested in birds to get involved and enjoy this past-time.

Ottawa Field-Naturalists' Club runs a number of birding intiatives:

The Birds Committee organizes talks and workshops on topics of interest to birders. Some topics covered include, bird identification matters, bird biology and bird-related projects.

They also produce a Birder's Checklist for the Ottawa-Gatineau region, which comprehensively lists the birds found in the region, and also an Ottawa Birding locations guide.

The Ontario Breeding Birds Atlas - focuses on mapping the distribution of all breeding bird species in Ontario, but with more emphasis on collecting abundance information through point counts. You can view maps of numerous bird species, see how their populations are distributed and how they have changed over the last almost 30 years.
