Protected Areas in Mississippi Watershed

Mississippi WatershedMississippi WatershedMississippi Valley Conservation (MVC) is committed to conserving sites of environmental and cultural significance for the enjoyment of future generations and the health of the watershed.  MVC owns various properties throughout the watershed and continues to look for opportunity for preservation through land acquisition and stewardship initiatives such as the landowner advisory services program. A free service for landowners to discuss their property needs with a knowledgeable staff member.

MVC owns and operates the Mill of Kintail Conservation area home to the R. Tait McKenzie Memorial Museum and 154 acres of field and forest land with an extensive trail network. It is also the base of the MVC Education Program. The Purdon Conservation Area is home to Canada's largest colony of Showy Lady Slipper Orchids and is a showcase for land stewardship as its previous owner, Joe Purdon, managed the property nurturing the orchids to the colony the public sees today. MVC manages the Morris Island Conservation Area property owned by both the City of Ottawa and Ontario Power Generation.
