Making a Difference - How to Protect your Lake

On Saturday October 24, the 8th Annual Lake Links Workshop will be held at the Perth Legion (6 Beckwith Street East) from 9:00 am till 3:00 pm. Lake Links is a collaboration of Conservation Authorities, Stewardship Councils, NGO’s and Lakes Associations who have come together to develop and host this workshop.

This event offers a unique blend of top-notch presenters with professional expertise in lake environmental protection and monitoring and hands-on interactive informative exhibits to help you learn to protect the health of your lake.

This year’s line-up of topics and expert speakers include:

  • The 4 W’s of Measuring Water Quality - Dana Cruikshank – Surface Water Quality Scientist, Ministry of the Environment with panel of Patrick Larson, Senior Water Resources Technician, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and Gray Merriam, Ecologist, Frontenac Stewardship Council/Kennebec Lake Association;
  • Make Peace with Aquatic Vegetation – 2008 Kawartha Lakes Stewards Aquatic Plants Study and Guide – Dr Eric Sager, Ecological Restoration Program Fleming College/Trent University;
  • The Role of Recreational Angler in Fisheries Research, Monitoring and Management – Dr Steven Cooke, Associate Professor of Environmental Science and Biology, Carleton University;
  • Monitoring your Lake Fishery – Anne Bendig, and Cam McCauley; Biologist, Ministry of Natural Resources, Kemptville
  • Get’er Done – Citizen Science is so much Fun – Mike Yee – Biologist, Rideau Valley Conservation Authority 

There will be up to 20 stewardship exhibits with themes such as species at risk, invasive species, lake planning and water quality. There will also be interactive invertebrate, fisheries, water quality and ground water displays. Come on out and find out how you can make a difference.
